Home of Record Officially Corrected
One of the most confusing aspects of a veteran's military records is the Home of Record on his official DD-214. Home of record" in
a casualty record does not always reflect his home town. It is an unfortunate circumstance that the place the veteran and his
family actually resided or grew up were frequently not reflected as the home of record. There are many reasons why this occured for
instance, it might reflect their last stateside duty station, used the address where a relative currently resided or
instead of the town they grew up. At that time, they would have absolutely no knowledge of any future consequences. Little did
they know that years later, friends or relatives would be searching for their name on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial where so many
veteran names would be inscribed.
Many families have requested the veterans Home of Record reflect home town where the veteran was known. There is now a
channel for the request change be at least reviewed by the veterans respective branch of service. More information can be reviewed
on
http://www.virtualwall.org/docs/homeofrecord.htm and the DD-149 form can be downloaded.
Once you receive a reply from the respective Service Branch Review Board, we would greatly appreciate if you would please forward a
copy to The Virtual Wall (TM), Jim Schueckler,
http://www.virtualwall.org so we can update the Coffelt database and the appropriate memorial page on The Virtual Wall (TM).
